Turn the Tide Entrepreneurship & Leadership Round Table 2023

Turn the Tide Entrepreneurship & Leadership Round Table 2023

Turn the Tide is Women in Seafood Australasia‘s flagship project, running from 2023 to 2026. It is funded by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women and is supported by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation. Through Turn the Tide, and the programs we are running, our aim is to connect, enable, and support all women working in and with the Australian Seafood Industry. Turn the Tide is creating a movement to champion inclusivity in this industry that we are deeply passionate about – because we know when we welcome, hear and see diverse voices and people, we enable an industry that is both fair, and one that will thrive into the future.

The 2023 Round Table is the culmination of our 2023 Turn the Tide Entrepreneurship and Leadership program, led by Affectus. This program has brought together 30 determined and accomplished women from all parts of the seafood industry around the country. They worked together for five months to tackle difficult and longstanding issues for women, issues identified by Australian seafood women through WISA research and workshops.

They collaborated in action groups and used entrepreneurial and leadership thinking to push beyond the problems and take steps to action and advocacy. Each of the five action groups was guided by one of our five facilitators who learned how to inspire, motivate and mobilise groups. The groups also worked with experts and influencers from the seafood industry and other sectors to develop their ideas and expand their plans.

These 30 women have been motivated because they care about making change. This takes courage and leadership. It has been a privilege to work with this group of women and watch the journey they have been on to Turn the Tide for women in the Australian Seafood Industry.
